Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism

Meaning

Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism (HH) is a clinical condition characterized by deficient sex hormone production (hypogonadism) resulting from a failure in the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus or luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland (hypogonadotropic). This central defect results in low circulating levels of testosterone or estradiol, contrasting with primary hypogonadism where the gonads themselves are the site of failure. Identifying the precise central etiology is critical for effective hormonal replacement or fertility treatment strategies.
