Hypogonadism and Autoimmunity

Meaning

Hypogonadism refers to a clinical condition characterized by deficient functional activity of the gonads, the testes in males and ovaries in females, resulting in impaired production of sex hormones and/or gametes. Autoimmunity, in this context, signifies a dysregulation of the immune system where it erroneously targets and attacks the body’s own tissues, including endocrine glands, leading to their damage and subsequent functional impairment.
