Hypogonadal-Obesity Cycle

Meaning

The Hypogonadal-Obesity Cycle describes a detrimental, self-perpetuating feedback loop in which low levels of gonadal hormones, particularly testosterone in men and estrogen in women, contribute to the development or exacerbation of obesity, which in turn further suppresses endogenous hormone production. This bidirectional relationship establishes a chronic state of metabolic and endocrine dysfunction, significantly increasing the risk for cardiometabolic diseases. Breaking this cycle is a primary clinical goal in both weight management and hormonal therapy.
