Hyperviscosity Syndrome

Meaning

Hyperviscosity Syndrome is a clinical condition characterized by an abnormal increase in the viscosity, or thickness, of the blood, which significantly impedes blood flow and impairs organ perfusion. This increased resistance to flow can lead to a variety of symptoms, including neurological deficits, visual disturbances, and heart failure. It is typically associated with conditions that elevate the concentration of blood components, such as high levels of paraproteins or a high red blood cell count.
