Hyperuricemia

Meaning

A clinical condition defined by an abnormally elevated concentration of uric acid, the end product of purine metabolism, in the circulating blood plasma, typically exceeding 6.8 mg/dL. While often asymptomatic, this metabolic derangement is the necessary precursor to the formation of monosodium urate crystals, which can precipitate in joints and soft tissues, leading to the acute inflammatory arthritis known as gout. It is a critical biomarker of metabolic dysfunction and renal clearance issues.
