Hyperthyroidism Skin

Meaning

Hyperthyroidism skin refers to the distinct dermatological manifestations that occur due to an excess of circulating thyroid hormones, primarily thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The clinical presentation is generally characterized by a state of increased metabolic activity, leading to warm, smooth, and moist skin, often accompanied by hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. In the autoimmune form of the disease, Graves’ disease, a specific skin condition called pretibial myxedema may also be present.
