Hypertension

Meaning

Hypertension refers to the consistent elevation of arterial blood pressure above normal physiological limits, typically defined as a systolic pressure of 130 mmHg or higher, or a diastolic pressure of 80 mmHg or higher. This condition signifies an increased force exerted by circulating blood against the inner walls of the body’s arteries, which are the vessels responsible for distributing blood from the heart to all other tissues and organs.
