Hyperhidrosis

Meaning

A chronic, clinical condition characterized by excessive, abnormal sweating that occurs far in excess of what is required for normal thermoregulation or is unrelated to physical exertion. This often debilitating disorder can be localized (focal) to specific areas like the palms, soles, or axillae, or it can be generalized (systemic) across the body surface. Hyperhidrosis represents a functional disorder of the eccrine sweat glands, frequently leading to significant psychosocial distress and functional impairment.
