Hypergonadotropic Hypogonadism

Meaning

Hypergonadotropic Hypogonadism describes a clinical state characterized by impaired function of the gonads, leading to insufficient production of sex hormones and/or gametes, despite elevated levels of gonadotropins, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), secreted by the pituitary gland. This indicates a primary failure originating at the level of the gonads themselves rather than the pituitary or hypothalamus.
