Human Resilience

Meaning

Human resilience is the physiological and psychological capacity to adapt successfully to stress, adversity, and trauma, returning to or maintaining a state of stable function. This intrinsic ability is heavily influenced by the neuroendocrine system’s capacity to manage allostatic load, the cumulative wear and tear on the body due to chronic stress. High resilience is characterized by a rapid and efficient recovery of hormonal balance following a perturbation. Cultivating this resilience is vital for protecting long-term health and mitigating age-related decline.
