HPTA Axis Recovery

Meaning

The physiological process of restoring the normal, pulsatile, and coordinated function of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Testicular Axis (HPTA) after it has been suppressed or inhibited, most commonly due to the use of exogenous androgens or anabolic steroids. Successful recovery is defined by the return of endogenous testosterone production to a level sufficient to maintain normal physiological function and clinical well-being. This process is often a critical goal following cessation of suppressive hormonal therapy.
