HPS Axis Recalibration

Meaning

A therapeutic or lifestyle intervention strategy specifically aimed at restoring the optimal, homeostatic rhythm and sensitivity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Stress (HPS) axis, often used synonymously with the HPA axis. This recalibration seeks to correct the chronic dysregulation—characterized by either hyper- or hypo-cortisolism—that results from prolonged psychological or physiological stress. The goal is to return the system to a state of appropriate, adaptive responsiveness, enhancing resilience and reducing the detrimental effects of chronic stress on metabolic and immune function.
