HPS Axis

Meaning

The HPS Axis, or Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Somatotropic Axis, is a fundamental neuroendocrine pathway regulating somatic growth, cellular proliferation, and metabolic homeostasis. This complex system involves hierarchical interaction between the hypothalamus, anterior pituitary gland, and various peripheral target tissues. Growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 are its primary mediators, ensuring proper development and tissue maintenance.
