HPS Axis

Meaning

The HPS Axis, or Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Somatotropic Axis, is a critical neuroendocrine pathway that precisely regulates somatic growth, systemic metabolism, and overall body composition throughout the entire human lifespan. This interconnected system involves the hypothalamus, which secretes Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH), the anterior pituitary gland, which produces Growth Hormone (GH), and the liver, which subsequently releases Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). The axis is absolutely fundamental to maintaining tissue integrity, metabolic efficiency, and a healthy body composition profile.
