HPO Axis Reactivation

Meaning

HPO Axis Reactivation refers to the therapeutic or physiological restoration of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Ovarian axis, the primary neuroendocrine system governing female reproductive function. This process involves stimulating the hypothalamus to release Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in a pulsatile manner, subsequently restoring pituitary gonadotropin release and ovarian steroidogenesis. Successful reactivation is clinically characterized by the resumption of regular ovulatory cycles and menses, reversing a state of central reproductive suppression.
