HPG-RAAS Axis

Meaning

The HPG-RAAS Axis describes the complex and often antagonistic crosstalk between the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis and the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS). This interaction links reproductive and metabolic hormonal regulation with cardiovascular and fluid homeostasis. Dysregulation in one system, such as a decline in sex steroids from the HPG axis, can significantly influence the activity of the RAAS, thereby contributing to sex-specific differences in cardiovascular and renal disease risk.
