HPG Axis Status Assessment

Meaning

This diagnostic evaluation systematically measures the integrity and function of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis, the primary neuroendocrine system regulating reproductive and sexual function in both males and females. Assessment involves quantifying key signaling hormones, including Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) surrogates, Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), and the end-organ sex steroids like testosterone and estradiol. The results classify the status as eugonadal, primary hypogonadism, or secondary hypogonadism, providing essential diagnostic clarity.
