HPG Axis Restart

Meaning

HPG Axis Restart refers to a specific clinical protocol designed to restore the functionality of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis following its suppression, most commonly after the cessation of exogenous sex steroid administration. The goal is to stimulate the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to resume their endogenous production of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Successful restoration is clinically confirmed by the return of endogenous sex hormone production, such as testosterone or estradiol, to physiological reference ranges. This strategy is critical for fertility preservation and long-term hormonal independence.
