HPG Axis Recovery

Meaning

HPG Axis Recovery is the clinical process of restoring the normal, pulsatile, and coordinated function of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal axis after a period of suppression or dysfunction. This recovery is a critical objective following the cessation of exogenous hormone administration, such as Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), or in cases of secondary hypogonadism induced by chronic stress or specific medications. Successful recovery is marked by the return of endogenous gonadotropin and sex steroid production to a physiological, self-regulating range.
