HPG Axis Modulation Techniques

Meaning

HPG Axis Modulation Techniques are a collection of clinical interventions and pharmacological strategies used to selectively adjust the activity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. This neuroendocrine axis controls the production of sex steroids (testosterone, estrogen, progesterone) and gametes (sperm, ova). Modulation is employed to treat conditions ranging from infertility and hypogonadism to precocious puberty and certain hormone-sensitive cancers. The techniques are highly specific, aiming to either stimulate, suppress, or stabilize the pulsatile release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) and the subsequent downstream hormones.
