HPG Axis Interference

Meaning

HPG axis interference describes any internal or external factor that disrupts the normal, pulsatile, and tightly regulated communication loop between the Hypothalamus, Pituitary gland, and Gonads. This interference, whether caused by exogenous hormone administration, chronic stress, or underlying pathology, can suppress or dysregulate the natural production of sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen. Clinically, this disruption is a primary concern in hormonal therapies aiming to maintain or restore endogenous function.
