HPG Axis Inhibition

Meaning

HPG Axis Inhibition refers to the suppression of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal axis, a neuroendocrine pathway regulating reproductive function and steroid hormone synthesis. This action reduces the release of GnRH from the hypothalamus, LH and FSH from the pituitary, subsequently lowering gonadal steroid hormones such as testosterone or estrogen. The outcome is diminished physiological activity within this central hormonal cascade.
