HPG Axis Environmental Modulation

Meaning

HPG axis environmental modulation refers to the process of adjusting external factors, such as light exposure, diet, stress levels, and xenobiotic exposure, to beneficially influence the function of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. This central endocrine axis controls reproductive function, sex hormone production, and fertility in both males and females. Targeted modulation aims to correct functional dysregulation, like stress-induced amenorrhea or low testosterone, by optimizing the environmental inputs that signal to the hypothalamus. It is a non-pharmacological approach to restoring reproductive and sex hormone health.
