HPG Axis and Metabolism

Meaning

HPG Axis and Metabolism describes the reciprocal regulatory relationship between the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis, the primary controller of reproductive and sex steroid hormones, and the body’s metabolic processes, including energy expenditure, fat distribution, and glucose homeostasis. Sex steroids, such as testosterone and estrogen, are critical modulators of insulin sensitivity and body composition. Dysregulation in one system invariably impacts the other, often leading to a complex clinical presentation.
