HPAT Axis

Meaning

The HPAT Axis, which stands for the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal-Thyroid Axis, is a comprehensive conceptual model representing the interconnected neuroendocrine regulatory system involving four major glands. This axis integrates the central control of the hypothalamus and pituitary with the peripheral function of the adrenal glands (cortisol, DHEA) and the thyroid gland (T3, T4). The HPAT axis is a critical component of human homeostasis, governing stress response, energy metabolism, thermoregulation, and overall vitality. Dysregulation in any single component often cascades into imbalances across the entire axis, leading to complex clinical presentations.
