HPA Axis Workplace Stress

Meaning

HPA Axis Workplace Stress describes the activation and subsequent dysregulation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis due to chronic or acute psychosocial stressors encountered in the occupational environment. The HPA axis is the primary neuroendocrine system governing the stress response, releasing glucocorticoids like cortisol in a cascade initiated by the hypothalamus. Sustained workplace demands, lack of control, or interpersonal conflict can lead to chronic hypercortisolemia or HPA axis blunting, disrupting hormonal homeostasis and increasing the risk for metabolic and cardiovascular disorders.
