HPA Axis Decoupling

Meaning

HPA Axis Decoupling refers to the therapeutic process of actively restoring a healthy, highly responsive, and appropriate regulatory relationship between the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis and the body’s systemic stress response mechanisms. Clinically, this intervention addresses the pathological state where chronic, unrelenting stress has resulted in a persistent, often blunted or dysregulated, cortisol and adrenaline output pattern. Decoupling aims to successfully re-establish the critical negative feedback loop and restore a healthy, predictable hormonal rhythm.
