Hormone Secretagogues

Meaning

Hormone secretagogues are a class of substances, which can be synthetic compounds, peptides, or natural molecules, that stimulate a specific endocrine gland, such as the pituitary, to increase the endogenous release of a target hormone. Unlike direct exogenous hormone replacement, these agents work by enhancing the body’s own natural production and pulsatile secretion of hormones. Clinically, they are utilized to improve the body’s natural endocrine function, often targeting the growth hormone axis or testosterone production pathway. They offer a mechanism to restore physiological rhythmicity.
