Hormone Secretagogue

Meaning

A Hormone Secretagogue is a substance, whether endogenous or exogenous, that stimulates the pituitary gland or other endocrine organs to release a specific hormone into the circulation. Unlike direct hormone replacement, a secretagogue works by activating the body’s own production and release machinery. Clinically, these agents are employed to restore or enhance the pulsatile, physiological secretion of hormones, such as Growth Hormone or Luteinizing Hormone, often preferred for their ability to promote endogenous function. This mechanism is central to therapies aimed at HPG axis recalibration and natural hormone optimization.
