Hormone Potency

Meaning

Hormone potency is a precise pharmacological and endocrinological metric used to quantify the intrinsic strength of a hormone’s biological effect at a specific concentration. It specifically measures the dose or concentration of a hormone required to elicit a defined biological response of a particular magnitude, most commonly the concentration needed to achieve fifty percent of the maximal possible response. A hormone with superior potency is capable of achieving its desired effect at a significantly lower circulating dose compared to a less potent hormone.
