Hormonal Uncoupling

Meaning

Hormonal Uncoupling is a state of physiological dysfunction where the expected biological response of a target tissue to a circulating hormone is significantly diminished or entirely lost, despite the presence of normal or even elevated hormone concentrations. This clinical phenomenon represents a form of cellular resistance, typically arising from chronic overexposure to the hormone leading to receptor down-regulation or from defects in the post-receptor intracellular signaling cascade.
