Hormonal Suppression Therapy

Meaning

Hormonal suppression therapy is a clinical treatment strategy designed to intentionally reduce or block the production or action of specific endogenous hormones in the body. This therapeutic approach is primarily employed in the management of hormone-sensitive cancers, such as certain breast and prostate cancers, by starving the tumor cells of the growth-promoting hormones they require. The therapy aims to achieve a therapeutic hypogonadism or endocrine blockade to control disease progression.
