Hormonal Receptor Saturation

Meaning

Hormonal Receptor Saturation refers to the state where the concentration of a specific hormone in circulation is sufficient to occupy virtually all available specific receptor sites on target cells within the tissues. When saturation is achieved, further increases in circulating hormone concentration yield diminishing or negligible increases in downstream biological effect, a concept governed by the law of mass action. Clinically, we assess this to determine if symptoms are due to insufficient hormone presence or receptor-level inefficiency. True biological efficacy depends on this binding event.
