Hormonal Downshift

Meaning

The collective, gradual, and physiological decline in the endogenous production and circulating levels of key anabolic and regulatory hormones that occurs naturally with chronological aging. This downshift involves multiple endocrine axes, including the somatotropic (Growth Hormone), the gonadal (Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone), and the adrenal (DHEA, Pregnenolone) systems. It is a fundamental process contributing to sarcopenia, immunosenescence, and the overall reduction in physiological reserve that defines aging.
