Hormonal Disruptions

Meaning

Hormonal disruptions, often used interchangeably with endocrine disruption, describe any interference with the body’s complex endocrine system that results in adverse health effects. This disruption can occur at various points, including the synthesis, secretion, transport, binding, action, or elimination of natural hormones. The term encompasses effects from internal pathologies, such as autoimmune disease or tumors, as well as external factors, primarily exposure to Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs). Clinically, these disruptions manifest as a wide array of symptoms and conditions, ranging from fertility issues and metabolic syndrome to thyroid dysfunction and neurodevelopmental problems.
