Hormonal Conversion

Meaning

Hormonal Conversion refers to the essential biochemical process within the body where one hormone is enzymatically transformed into a different, often more or less biologically active, hormone. This process is a crucial regulatory step, allowing the body to fine-tune and localize hormonal activity in target tissues, independent of the primary endocrine glands. A prime clinical example is the conversion of the androgen testosterone into the more potent dihydrotestosterone (DHT) or into the estrogen estradiol (E2) via the aromatase enzyme.
