Hormonal Command Layer

Meaning

The Hormonal Command Layer is a conceptual term used to describe the highest level of hierarchical control within the neuroendocrine system, specifically the Hypothalamus. This layer acts as the master regulator, integrating input from the central nervous system, environmental cues, and peripheral hormone feedback to orchestrate the release of releasing and inhibiting hormones. It sets the fundamental tone and rhythm for all downstream endocrine axes, including the HPA, HPG, and HPT axes.
