Hormonal Bone Loss

Meaning

Hormonal Bone Loss describes the pathological reduction in bone mineral density and deterioration of bone microarchitecture that is directly attributable to an imbalance or deficiency of key endocrine factors, primarily sex steroid hormones. This condition is most prominently observed in postmenopausal women due to the precipitous decline in estrogen, which is a potent regulator of bone remodeling, but also occurs in men with significant testosterone deficiency. This systemic skeletal fragility increases the long-term risk of osteoporotic fractures and compromises overall longevity.
