Hormonal Axis Resilience

Meaning

The capacity of the body’s major endocrine feedback loops, such as the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) and Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axes, to rapidly and effectively return to a state of equilibrium following a physiological or psychological stressor. High resilience signifies robust hormonal health and a lower susceptibility to chronic endocrine dysregulation and allostatic load. It is a key measure of the system’s adaptive reserve.
