Hormonal Axis Inertia

Meaning

Hormonal Axis Inertia describes a state of sluggish responsiveness or resistance to change within a major endocrine regulatory system, such as the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) or Gonadal (HPG) axis. This inertia prevents the rapid and precise adjustment of hormone secretion rates necessary for maintaining dynamic homeostasis in the face of acute or changing environmental demands. The clinical consequence is a persistent, inappropriate hormonal milieu, often characterized by a delayed or blunted feedback response that contributes to chronic stress or reproductive dysfunction.
