Homeostasis

Meaning

Homeostasis is the fundamental physiological process by which the body actively maintains a stable, relatively constant internal environment despite continuous fluctuations in external conditions or internal demands. This dynamic equilibrium is essential for cellular function and survival, encompassing the regulation of temperature, $text{pH}$, fluid balance, and critically, hormone concentrations. The endocrine system plays a central, continuous role in orchestrating this balance through negative and positive feedback loops.
