Homeodynamic Stability

Meaning

Homeodynamic stability is a concept in gerontology and physiology that describes the body’s capacity to maintain overall function and health by dynamically adjusting its internal environment in response to external and internal stressors. Unlike the simpler concept of homeostasis, which aims for a fixed set point, homeodynamics acknowledges that biological systems must operate within a flexible range of states and possess a robust adaptive reserve. A high degree of homeodynamic stability signifies strong resilience, optimal hormonal responsiveness, and a lower biological age. The progressive loss of this stability is a hallmark of the aging process.
