HLA Complex

Meaning

The Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) complex is a critical group of genes located on chromosome 6 that encode proteins essential for regulating the immune system in humans. These proteins are expressed on the surface of most cells and are responsible for presenting antigens to T-lymphocytes, initiating the immune response. The high polymorphism of the HLA complex is fundamental to tissue compatibility and disease susceptibility.
