Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor

Meaning

A Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor, or HDACi, is a pharmacological agent designed to block the enzymatic activity of histone deacetylases. These enzymes remove acetyl groups from histone proteins, integral to chromatin structure, regulating gene expression. By inhibiting HDACs, these compounds promote histone hyperacetylation, leading to a more relaxed chromatin state that facilitates gene transcription.
