Histamine Release

Meaning

The rapid physiological process where histamine, a biologically active amine, is secreted from storage granules within mast cells and basophils into the surrounding tissues or bloodstream. This release is a central event in immediate allergic reactions and is also involved in regulating gastric acid secretion and acting as a neurotransmitter. Uncontrolled histamine release can lead to clinical symptoms ranging from localized itching and hives to life-threatening systemic anaphylaxis.
