Hippocampal Transfer

Meaning

Hippocampal transfer refers to the neurophysiological process of memory consolidation where newly acquired information, initially encoded in the hippocampus, is gradually transferred to the neocortex for long-term storage and retrieval. This process is critically dependent on the integrity of the sleep architecture, particularly Slow Wave Sleep, and is highly sensitive to the neuroendocrine environment. Hormonal disruption can impair this essential transfer, leading to deficits in declarative memory.
