HGH Secretagogue

Meaning

An HGH Secretagogue, or Human Growth Hormone Secretagogue, is a compound that stimulates the pituitary gland to increase the pulsatile secretion of endogenous Growth Hormone (GH). Unlike direct GH replacement, secretagogues work by engaging the body’s own regulatory mechanisms, often through the Ghrelin receptor or Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) pathways. Clinically, these agents are explored to safely enhance GH levels, which are critical for maintaining lean body mass, bone density, and metabolic function, particularly as natural production declines with age. They represent a physiological approach to modulating the somatotropic axis.
