HFpEF

Meaning

HFpEF, or Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction, is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by typical signs and symptoms of heart failure despite a left ventricular ejection fraction that is normal or near-normal, typically above 50%. The fundamental issue in HFpEF is the heart’s impaired ability to relax and fill with blood properly during diastole, leading to elevated filling pressures within the heart chambers, particularly the left ventricle.
