Heterophilic Antibodies

Meaning

Endogenous antibodies found in human serum that possess the capacity to bind to antigens from two or more different species, including components used in laboratory immunoassay kits. These antibodies are non-specific and can form a bridge between the capture and detection antibodies in an assay. Their presence can lead to significant analytical interference, producing false positive or false negative results for various hormonal and clinical markers.
