Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor-4α

Meaning

Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor-4α, commonly abbreviated as HNF-4α, is a highly conserved nuclear receptor protein that functions as a critical transcription factor. This protein belongs to the steroid hormone receptor superfamily, although it does not bind classical steroid hormones, instead regulating gene expression by directly binding to specific DNA sequences in the promoter regions of target genes, thereby activating or repressing their transcription.
