Hepatocyte

Meaning

A Hepatocyte is the principal parenchymal cell of the liver, constituting approximately 80% of the organ’s mass and performing the majority of its metabolic, secretory, and endocrine functions. These cells are essential for numerous vital processes, including carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, protein synthesis, bile production, and the critical detoxification and conjugation of hormones and xenobiotics. Their functional integrity is paramount for systemic hormonal balance and overall physiological homeostasis.
